Kenyan supernatural folk thriller short film Goat will have its European premiere at the 2026 NollywoodWeek (NOW) Film Festival, taking place from 6 to 10 May in Paris.

Goat is helmed by Judy Kibinge (Something Necessary) who made a return to writing and directing in 2025 after more than a decade at Docubox, the East African independent film fund she founded in 2013.

“This is my first truly personal film in over a decade. It was made after 13 years of building a remarkable film fund and community for independent African filmmakers, while my own creative voice lay dormant,” Kibinge told Sinema Focus in 2025.

Goat had its world premiere in competition at the 2025 Woodstock Film Festival in New York, and has also screened at Sharjah Film Platform in the UAE and the International Festival of Women’s Films in Cotonou. The film will also screen at the New York African Film Festival in May as part of the shorts programme “Go Back and Get It.”

It follows city lovebirds Suki and Benjamin who travel to a remote goat farm where Suki soon realises the ancient Mugumo tree is demanding she pay back a debt she didn’t even know she was carrying.

Goat stars Sheila Munyiva (Country Queen) and Brian Ogola (Lusala), alongside Peter Mudamba (Country Queen), Joseph Gachanja (Second Family), and twins Natasha Wangari and Sasha Wambui.

At NollywoodWeek, it joins a lineup that includes Mothers of Chibok (Joel Kachi Benson, Nigeria), When Nigeria Happens (Ema Edosio, Nigeria), The Fisherman (Zoey Martinson, Ghana), Memory of Princess Mumbi (Damien Hauser, Kenya), and Batwing Unmasked: An African Superhero (France).

According to Okada Media’s Serge Noukoue, the co-founder of NollywoodWeek, Goat speaks to a growing global appetite for fresh voices and untold stories. “African filmmakers are stepping boldly into genre spaces – horror, thriller, fantasy – and redefining them through deeply rooted cultural lenses,” he says. “By hosting its European premiere, NollywoodWeek once again proves itself as the go-to launchpad for the next wave of African cinema, where discovery meets edge, and culture meets craft.”
