While Kenya’s Netflix catalogue still doesn’t match up in volume to South Africa and Nigeria, the streamer is slowly building its content slate in Kenya in a strategy that has seen it license Kenyan films, including local hits like Nafsi and the whole One Fine Day catalogue of Nairobi Half Life, Supa Modo, Lusala, Kati Kati, Something Necessary and Veve.

On the series side, Netflix launched Country Queen, its first Kenyan series, in 2022, and is set to premiere yet another Kenyan series titled Volume in 2023.

Here’s everything we know about Volume so far.

The plot

It’s a music drama series that revolves around Benja and his dream to become a musician.

When the industry proves that such notions are a piped dream, Benja’s world quickly turns into a whirlwind of uncertainty which may quickly jeopardise his musical career, before it has even begun.

Though Volume revolves around music, it is really the story of boys becoming men. The hood where they live represents the challenges all young people face, the music which pumps through their veins, represents hope and a future.
