Filmmaking couple Lizz Njagah and Alex Konstantaras are making a comeback in Kenya’s television scene with the body-swapping, gender-flipping dramedy Adam to Eve.

Set to premiere on Showmax on 26 November, the series stars Blessing Lung’aho (Country Queen) as the titular Adam, a charming playboy whose world is turned upside down when a mysterious curse transforms him into a woman. He must now confront his own misogyny and navigate the world in his new body.

Ellah Maina (Sincerely Daisy) plays Adam’s female version Eve, with Celestine Gachuhi (Selina), Kieran Ratanya (Boda Love), Matthew Ngugi (MTV Shuga Mashariki), Marya Okoth (A Nurse Toto), Robert Agengo (40 Sticks) and Chris Kamau (Country Queen) also starring.

“At its heart, Adam to Eve is a story about walking in someone else’s shoes quite literally,” says Njagah who serves as executive producer. “It uses humour to spark reflection on how we perceive gender and privilege, while reminding us that change often begins with understanding.”

Known for her iconic roles in TV shows Jane & Abel, Makutano Junction and How to Find a Husband, as well as films like House of Lungula and Fundi-Mentals, Njagah was one of the defining faces of Kenyan screens in the 2000s.

Together with her husband Konstantaras, they founded Historia Films, a Kenyan production house known for its bold, risqué projects at a time when such content was still foreign on local television – from House of Lungula to Fundi-Mentals, both directed by Konstantaras.

Since relocating to Greece in 2016, the couple have released only two projects: the 2017 comedy-drama series News Just In and the 2022 Maisha Magic film Bargain Bride. Adam to Eve is their first project in three years, and a clear signal of their comeback into the Kenyan television and film scene.

“We wanted to blend fantasy and comedy with socially resonant themes. The series is unapologetically funny, deeply Kenyan, and reflective of the vibrant, evolving conversations happening across Africa about identity and equality,” says Konstantaras, who directs the series alongside UK based filmmaker Aggie Nyagari (Janjaruka).

Konstantaras also serves as the series head writer, working with Tony Koros (Tithes and Offerings), Yafesi Musoke (Mono), Serah Mwihaki (Single Kiasi), Rose Njoroge (Monica), Lily Wanjiku (Sue na Johnnie), and George Salt (Njanjaruka).
