Mumbi Maina and Sarah Hassan are among the nominees for the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) 2022, who have been announced today in Lagos by Nollywood actors Adesua Etomi and Daniel Etim Effiong.

Mumbi has been nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in the Nollywood thriller film La Femme Anjola, while Hassan has been nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy for her role in the Kenyan-Nigerian comedy Just in Time. Directed by Nigerian filmmaker Dolapo Adeleke (Lowladee), Just in Time follows a bookstore manager who is forced to host her witty 11-year-old niece while also dealing with the arrival of an unexpected guest next door.

Other Kenyan nominees include Victor Ombogo who’s nominated for Best Cinematographer for the Kenyan rom-com Plan B, Phil Karanja’s A Grand Little Lie for Best Movie East Africa, Nameless and Wahu’s docu-reality series This Love and the documentary film If Objects Could Speak for Best Documentary, Rishai and Jaramandia for Best Indigenous Language Movie – Swahili, and Rebirth in MultiChoice Talent Factory category.
