‘Supa Team 4’ Trailer: Netflix’s First African Animated Series Set in Futuristic Lusaka

Created by Zambian Malenga Mulendema, with an all-female writing team, this animated series follows four girls who team up with a former secret agent to save the world in a neo-futuristic Lusaka.

Netflix has released the trailer for Supa Team 4, its first African animated series, premiering on 20 July. The series which was first announced in 2019 under the name Mama K’s Super 4, follows four teenage girls who team up with a former secret agent to save the world in a neo-futuristic Lusaka.

The eight-part series which promises action and adventure is created by Zambian Malenga Mulendema, and produced by South African animation studio Triggerfish (also behind Disney’s first all-African Original animated anthology Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire), with Dave Osbourne (Mr Bean: The Animated Series) as director.

Black Panther’s John Kani, Pamela Nomvete, Zowa Ngwira, Namisa Mdlalose, Nancy Sekhokoane, Sparky Xulu and Linda Sokhululend their voices to the animated series, alongside actors John MacMillan and Kimani Arthur.

Supa Team 4 features an all-female writing team that includes creator Mulendema, Kenya’s Ng’endo Mukii (Kizazi Moto) and Voline Ogutu (African Folktales Reimagined), Nigeria’s Vanessa Kanu (Kizazi Moto) and Omotunde Akiode (Tinsel), Emmy nominee Amy Keating Rodgers (The Powerpuff Girls), South Africa’s Tshepo Moche (Kizazi Moto), Cindy Morrow (The Powerpuff Girls), Senegal’s Khadidiatou Diouf (Kizazi Moto), Zambia’s Gloria Huwiler, and Ghana’s Maame Boateng.
