This month of October, get ready for the most disturbing Showmax Original true-crime series yet with Boetie Boer: Inside the Mind of a Monster on 18 October. The five-part documentary, about one of South Africa’s most notorious and unusual serial killers, takes us back in time to 1990: as the African National Congress is unbanned and Nelson Mandela is released after 27 years in prison, Stewart ‘Boetie Boer’ Wilken starts his killing spree in Port Elizabeth, now Gqeberha.

Fans of Njoro wa Uba have something to smile about as the beloved and AMVCA-winning Kenyan comedy makes a comeback for season 14 on 12 October. After selling his taxi and heading off to Dubai, things don’t work out, and now he’s back in Nairobi with no taxi of his own, a family to look after and nagging in-laws adding to his misery.
Get out the popcorn and round up the family for the #16 biggest box office hit of the year so far on 9 Octobe. Starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, Regé-Jean Page and Hugh Grant, Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves brings the tabletop role-playing game to life with a charming thief and a band of unlikely adventurers who embark on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic.
From the Yellowstone universe, catch 1923 from 16 October. Continuing the saga from Taylor Sheridan’s first Yellowstone prequel 1883 (also available on Showmax), 1923 stars Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford as Cara and Jacob Dutton, who head a new generation of the Dutton family in Montana during the time of western expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression.
On 23 October, catch The Rookie spin-off The Rookie: Feds, starring Niecy Nash as Special Agent Simone Clark, the oldest rookie in the FBI Academy, who is assigned to support the Los Angeles field office.
Regina Hall and Sterling K. Brown unite in the mockumentary-style satirical comedy Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul premiering on 26 October. Hall and Brown play Trinitie and Lee-Curtis Childs, a mega-church power couple determined to rebuild their congregation in the aftermath of a huge scandal.
