Inside Job, a new Kenyan comedy, is coming to Netflix on 14 June. Directed by Tosh Gitonga, Inside Job stars Jacky Vike and comedian Mammito Eunice as cousins who take matters into their own hands after witnessing an injustice. The plot line reads: When a heartless businessman fires his honest housekeeper without warning or pension, her jobless daughter and niece (played by Vike and Mammito) decide to make things right – by breaking into his house and robbing him.
While both leads have carved a path in doing online comedy skits – with Mammito also dabbling into stand-up – Vike is known for her screen roles in the Citizen TV comedy Papa Shirandula, Nairobi Half Life (also directed by Gitonga), Ni Sisi, Phil Karanja’s Click Click Bang, where she delivers a show-stealing performance. Recently, she has also pivoted to producing and directing with her own web series, Disco Matanga, which follows Vike as Awinja and her family navigating the absurdity of laying her brother to rest after his mysterious demise.
The cast of Inside Job also includes Shiksha Arora, Elyas Moshkwani, Irene Kariuki, Mehul Savani, Domnic Mutemi Musyoka, Isaac Jemedari, Maryam Jawad and Ronnie Kariuki.
Inside Job is Gitonga’s third project on Netflix under his Primary Pictures banner, following Disconnect: The Wedding Planner (2022) – the sequel to the 2018 romantic comedy Disconnect – and the music drama Volume (2023).
According to the film’s writer Angela Ruhinda, the project was greenlit by Netflix in 2022. “At its core, Inside Job is a fun, crime comedy about two cousins who will do anything for each other, even commit a crime.”
This isn’t the first time Ruhinda has collaborated with Kenyan filmmakers. The Tanzanian screenwriter and producer – whose film Binti became the first Tanzanian title on Netflix – co-wrote the 2023 romcom Married to Work (Netflix), a partnership between her Black Unicorn Studios and Kenya’s Insignia Productions. She also served as the head writer on Big Girl Small World, Showmax’s 2024 comedy-drama series directed by Nick Mutuma (Sincerely Daisy) and produced by Kevin Njue (MTV Shuga Mashariki). Most recently, in December 2024, Black Unicorn Studios teamed up with Kenya’s Okada Media and Enos Olik (serving as director) for The Christmas Run, which marked Tanzania’s first Christmas feature.
Inside Job will premiere on Netflix on 14 June.
