Citizen TV’s popular telenovela Zora has come to an end, ushering in a new Swahili telenovela Sultana.

Zora which premiered in March 2021 featured Sarah Hassan (Crime and Justice) in the titular role of Zora, a mother struggling to overcome her violent marriage even as she navigates a new love story with the charming widower Madiba (Blessing Lung’aho).

Ever since its premiere, Zora has been arguably the most popular telenovela in Kenya, taking up the coveted spot once owned by Maisha Magic East’s telenovela Selina which will also be coming to an end in April 2022.

Talking about Zora’s end, Hassan took to Instagram to commend fans of the show. “It’s been such an absolute pleasure and honour going through this journey with every single one of you. Thank you for rocking with us every Monday to Friday and for showing us so much love and support,” she wrote.

Zora producer Lulu Hassan also shared her sentiments and thanked for “making Zora what it is today.” She wrote, “A good story is one of the most subjective thing in life. One person’s genre of a story is another person’s success to enjoying one. In 2020 February, Zora was born, a child was received with a lot of love by all of you in the sense, that it is all about family insights and how to handle conflicts with loved ones and the society. I can go on in penning all I have in my mind right now but I want to shine a special kind of light to the team involved in making this a success, @jiffypictures crew and the cast. Not forgetting all our fans who have made Zora to what it is today.. we are indebted to you for sharing, watching and recommending other people to watch Zora. It is our hope and wish that we made your evenings…Thank you and God Bless you !!!”

Zora will be replaced by Sultana which will take up the same time slots on Citizen TV. Like its predecessor, Sultana, which is set at the Kenyan coast, is helmed by Jiffy Pictures’ power duo Lulu Hassan and Rashid Abdalla.

The pair are also behind other popular telenovelas like Maria, Maza, Tanzania’s Huba and Maisha Magic Plus’ telenovela Kovu which is also rumoured to be ending soon.
