Joe Kinyua (Njoro wa Uba) and Angela Mwandanda (County 49) are leading the two-hander romantic comedy She Gets Me, set to premiere on 11 February at the Kenya National Theatre.
Kinyua and Mwandanda star as a Nairobi couple whose chance meeting sparks an intense connection built on laughter, shared frustrations, and emotional intimacy. As romance gives way to marriage and family life, small miscommunications grow into deep fractures shaped by gender roles, financial pressure, and unmet emotional needs. When love collapses into divorce, both must confront the uncomfortable truth that understanding each other was never the problem, listening was.

The official synopsis reads: Two Nairobi strangers who instantly connect over humour and heartbreak fall in love, only to discover that understanding someone is easy at the beginning and much harder when marriage, pride and unspoken expectations take hold.
Produced by Kibanda Pictures, She Gets Me is written by Brian Munene and helmed by Millicent Ogutu, who makes the leap from producing to directing.
“She Gets Me is a deeply personal exploration of connection, vulnerability, and the quiet moments where understanding is formed,” Ogutu says.” As my directorial debut, this film represents my desire to tell stories that sit gently but honestly with human emotion, stories that ask us to listen more closely to one another, and to ourselves.”
Under Kibanda Pictures, Ogutu and Munene have collaborated for over a decade on several projects, including Kenya’s first sci-fi series Subterranea (2024), the political thriller series County 49 (2022), the AMVCA-nominated feature The Caller (2023), and short films such as Morning After (2020) and Bait (2015).
Likarion Wainaina (Subterranea) serves as producer, alongside Ogutu, Munene and Bruce Makau.
